So my brother recently got into Firefly, that long-lamented sci fi epic that Fox prematurely axed back in the days of yore. I suspect he only started watching cause I mentioned it in some Terminator-related conversation. Given Terminator's fate, you can guess what that conversation centered around.

Anyway, he watched the show and then the movie. Afterward he heartily recommended I give it a go myself, which I did over the past week while I was sick with bronchitis (ugh.) And then, four days ago, I watched the film.

I think I can say with some degree of certainty that I feel more remorse over Firefly's age-old cancellation than I do for Terminator's much more recent demise. Firefly was *that* good a show. I'm sure you can find some gushing reviews out there, so I won't spare any words on why it was so good except to say that if you haven't seen this quality TV series/movie before this moment, you must stop what you are doing this instant and go see them. The show's on Hulu.com and you can easily find the movie from a variety of internet sources.

Seriously. Go see them right now. And if you have seen them, do it again.

Omegle is a chat system that allows complete anonymity, relegating names to just "You" and "Stranger." Mostly it degrades into random conversations, and more often internet sex, but I had a lot of fun in one particular conversation.

And really, I couldn't be less surprised. I suppose that sounds insensitive, but I've grown dulled to bad news since there's been so much of it. It really died for me a month ago and now I can't muster up any anger at this. Because there's none. It's been a long, drawn out death in the making and now it's here. That's really all there is to it.

To be honest, I wouldn't hold this over their heads. They gave a poorly rated show two chances at survival and it didn't hold up to snuff either time. What would have happened if they renewed it again? Inevitable cancellation after thirteen episodes. That's not nearly enough time for me to finish off all the lingering stories and character development.

One could argue that THIS certainly isn't the right way to do it either, but at least with that last episode we have some degree of finality (mileage may vary, obviously,) leaving our imaginations to do the rest.

Well, anyway. It's been a fun ride. I have this show to thank for getting me back into the business of writing stories, making friends with unspeakably kind and wonderful people, and have the privilege of watching robots kick the crap out of each other. And I knew it'd end nastily, and so it has. Not much more to it than that.

Anything else you'd like to add, or is that it? Something more finale-ish, perhaps?

Ah, no? Okay.

If any of you found the music that played during Derek and Jesse's confrontation as catchy as I did, you can listen to it right here, called "New Messiah" by Dead Heart Bloom.

I dunno about retconning, (upon close examination it certainly feels possible) and frankly I could care less if it means John is actually as smart as he appears to be. Sort of.

Anyway, that's not the point of this. Two things are bothering me and I'd love to hear your opinions on it:

Well, I decided to give Dollhouse a whirl after Terminator, and I ended up being pleasantly surprised with its quality. The show has been getting a bit of a bum rap from some newspapers, and there were some logical lapses and boring subplots, but overall? I was engaged, understood, and had fun with it, and what more can you possible ask for in a television program?

More behind the cut. )

A dangerous criminal

Wanted for making me sick and absolutely miserable, this devious fiend goes by the name "influenza" in certain circles. His friends call him flu. Known to have a contagious personality.

If you see this man, please kill him.

This is a placeholder; I'll be playing the F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin demo today and my thoughts on it will be here later. Stay tuned.

The Fallout Series: A comparison

"War never changes..."

It was inevitable that I'd be more interested than ever in playing the rest of the Fallout series after enjoying the third one so much. I just didn't know HOW interested; getting the first one and buying the second a few days later, I motored my way through the franchise that gave birth to oft-acclaimed Game of the Year.

I'd heard all the naysayers; No Mutants Allowed dot com, the crazy ancient fans who said that no 3D first person BETHESDA game would ever hold a candle to their beloved series.

After playing through both games, I found that their gripes were actually... well, not crazy. They were actually pretty sensible, in fact.

We'll start with Fallout 1, and I may update throughout the day.

This might be the start of a log of notable experiences I have in Fallout 3. The game's just too... fricken' impressive to ignore, to not put thoughts to paper (or screen, in this case.) It has some pretty big shortcomings (mostly in the field or immersion; the NPCs are quite sterile at times,) but otherwise? Great, great video game experience. And so I'm writing those experiences down now. Maybe.

To give a little exposition on where I am currently: (beyond this cut) )

You know, I once read a book where it said, as a joke, that anyone could run for president; so long as they were white, male, in at least their fifties, were crazy rich, and had strong corporate ties. I read that and I nodded to myself; we're a pretty conservative society, so I didn't see the status quo being shaken up any time soon.

That all ended today. A black man has become our President, giving the finger to our racist tendencies and fully upholding the idea that ALL men are created equally, with nothing that makes us any different than the other.

With hope, it'll be a good presidency. I hope he can pull us out of the growing cesspit of troubles we have found ourselves in. I'm not fully optimistic, but we have come this far that we have gone into untested waters by electing a young, black man as our next president; surely now we can find the strength to get ourselves out of this mess and live up to the righteous title as the greatest country this world has ever seen.

That's for January, however. I'm pissed off. And somewhat bitter. The man and his cronies who have ruined this nation are getting off without so much as a slap on the wrist. It's criminal, but we'll have to live with it. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, we can turn their mistakes around.

And since we have elected the candidate of hope, I believe we're now in a position to do just that.

I don't believe in a higher being, so I'll just say this: this is the greatest country on Earth, I love it with all my heart, and with hope these next four years will be the time where this next generation of Americans proves their worth.

Phew. I started that, what, several months ago? Long time, anyhow. I can't even begin to process how much writing technique I've learned since then. Am I gonna keep writing for this fandom? Yeah. I think so.

Will I be as prolific? Hell no. I want my next Big Thing to be something wholly original. We'll see what happens.

Well, apparently I don't just know when to quit. So Mars got rid of me. Hopefully my next account will get by without much scrutiny, although I doubt the name "Super Metroid" won't turn a few eyes.

I've really gotta learn to stop being so opinionated, but then again, TWoP is the only place where you can receive capital punishment for using the word "um."

Hey, looks like I get another birthday present on September 3rd; my account back.

The evil, nefarious crime? I asked a fucking question. I'm assuming that's the reason, at least. It could be something else that was just as mundane. If someone could keep me up to date on Terminator shit there, I'd be much obliged. Specifically, what that bitch Roxy had to say on the questions thread. Thanks a million.
